Fireballs Drop Cats with Late Score
|
The Joplin Fireballs defeated the Fort Worth Cats, 5-3, in TMLAAA action at LaGrave Field, with Joplin pitcher Seijii Matsumura named player of the game. Joplin is now 44-57, Fort Worth 45-56.
Joplin left fielder Jamie Thompson had a key at-bat for the Fireballs in the top of the ninth inning. Facing right-hander Marlin Bryan, Thompson hit a run-scoring single. It put Joplin in front, 4-3. For the day, Thompson was 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Thompson, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
