State College Absorbs 5-4 Loss to Memphis
|
State College first baseman Alex Fernandez was sensational. He was 3-5 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Memphis beat the Swallowtails, 5-4. The winner in relief was Rod Horta. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 4.1 innings. He now owns a record of 2-0. Pete Wood earned the save, his 2nd, for the Privateers.
Raleigh, North Carolina-born Jason McLane came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded and the Privateers trailing 4-3, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Memphis on top.
In postgame comments, McLane told the Memphis Times: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"
Memphis has run its win streak to 4 consecutive.
