Hitmen Defeat Cacti, 9-5
|
The Calgary Hitmen outlasted the Albuquerque Cacti, 9-5, in 10 innings. George Deisinger provided some punch at the plate for Calgary. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. The win belonged to Jim Westberry in relief. His record improves to 5-2. Jaheem Williams took the loss for Albuquerque. Calgary goes to 65-32. The win puts them 13½ games up in their division.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Gary Greenlaw came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Albuquerque pitcher Jaheem Williams, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Calgary on top, 7-5.
"We just never give in," said Deisinger. "We think we've got an opportunity as long as we have an at-bat and some outs left."
