Witten Pitches Gem as Ambition Beat Astoria, 4-0
|
The Astoria Argonauts were almost helpless in their 4-0 loss to the Indianapolis Ambition and hurler Will Witten. Witten kept the Argonauts confused all game, spinning a 5-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Witten," Astoria manager Amin Kinsaka said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 26-year-old left-hander had 3 walks and 1 strikeout in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Witten said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
So far this year, Witten has made 12 starts, tossed 77 innings, struck out 30 batters and walked 28. His record is 3-5 with a 5.73 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .298 batting average.
