Freeze Beat Visiting Swallowtails, 4-2
|
Minneapolis beat State College on the strength of starting pitcher Victor Hernandez's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-2. Mike O'Neil finished the game for Minneapolis and earned his 13th save. By defeating State College, the 5th-place Freeze improved to 43-46.
Chris Sheppard had a big 2-run home run for the Freeze in the bottom of the first inning. With Minneapolis leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a splitter from Steve Stevens, who is tied for 5th in the RAAA in innings pitched with 114.1, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Freeze on top, 3-0.
State College manager Afalku Coffie said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
