El Paso beat Montreal at The Corral, eking out a 4-3 win. The win was due in large part to shortstop Brad Coates. He was 3 for 4 with 3 singles. He scored 2 runs. Arthur Alderdice earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 2-0. For the Mounties, the loss makes their record 10-16.
Danny Sullivan was 1 for 3 with a walk for El Paso. With two out and the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Sullivan had a clutch at-bat. Facing Montreal hurler Eric Wilkinson, he reached on an error by the SS, driving in 1 run to give the Mavericks a 4-3 lead.
Coates attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
