Fireballs Lose, 8-6, at Golden Fleece Park
|
Astoria played host to Joplin at the friendly confines of Golden Fleece Park.
The Joplin Fireballs got a sterling performance from third baseman Randy Poulton, but the Argonauts still prevailed, 8-6. Poulton was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He was 1 for 3 with 2 walks, while scoring 3 times. Vicente Banderas got credit for the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed 1 run on 6 hits in 2.2 innings. David Rios was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 5 of 8 save opportunities.
A crucial at-bat came with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the fourth inning. That's when catcher Neal Thacker, who is tied for 9th in the TAAA in total bases with 130, hit a run-scoring single. The Argonauts went on to win.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Argonauts manager Tom Robertson. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
The Argonauts have now won 4 straight.
