Albuquerque picked up a win at Capital Grounds, bumping off the Albany Firebirds, 3-1. Pitcher Earl Minnick was a major reason the Cacti emerged victorious. Minnick, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 0, and allowing no runs. Yoo-ngan Chen collected save number 9.
The Cacti got a big at-bat from left fielder Ron Wooley. For the game, Wooley was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 9th home run of the season gave Albuquerque a 2-0 lead.
"I didn't leave too many pitches out over the plate," said Minnick.
Albuquerque is now 34-23, Albany 31-27.
