Argonauts Hold Off Swallowtails, 3-2
|
The Astoria Argonauts did just enough to sneak past the State College Swallowtails, 3-2, at Golden Fleece Park. Astoria pitcher Jason Evans, in particular, had a standout performance. Astoria has 3 straight wins, State College 3 straight losses.
The Argonauts got a big at-bat from designated hitter Brian Ruddock. For the game, Ruddock was 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 9th home run of the season gave Astoria a 3-2 lead.
In comments to the Astoria Bulletin, Evans admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
