Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Armadillos
|
Astoria got a big-time effort from pitcher Nick Cook, but it wasn't enough to keep the Amarillo Armadillos from winning the game, 5-3. Cook threw 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs for the losing team. The win was credited to 25-year old right-handed pitcher Don Krueger in relief. His record improves to 2-3. Brandon Anderson took the loss. Amarillo is now 23-32, while Astoria is 21-32.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Carlos Ayala? The 22-year old right fielder Ayala stroked a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Amarillo up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"We did enough to win," said Ayala.
