Firebirds Fight for 2-1 Win
The Albany Firebirds picked up a win at Excavatar Park, knocking off the Peoria Caterpillars, 2-1, in 13 innings. On the mound for Albany was right-hander Jim Metcalfe. He played a pivotal role in the triumph. The third-place Firebirds have a record of 29-24.

Albany used the timely hitting of Dean Whiffen to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 13th inning to put the Firebirds on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"I liked his command," said Albany manager Garry Rabenek. "Jim was throwing strikes."
