Freeze Roll to 8-3 Win Over Fireballs
|
The Minneapolis Freeze trumped the Joplin Fireballs, 8-3, at The Ice Box. Minneapolis catcher Travis Till was named player of the game for his performance. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times. Frank Gallagher picked up the win, improving his season record to 4-4. He struck out 4 in 5.1 innings. The Freeze own a robust 41-19 mark.
Mike Mathers had a big run-scoring single for the Freeze in the bottom of the third inning. With Minneapolis leading 3-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a slider from Aaron Farmer and stroked the single to left. It was his 61st hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Freeze ahead, 4-2.
"Nervous? No," said Mathers. "It was my time to shine."
