Coal Miners Turn Back Calgary, 7-5
|
The Antioch Coal Miners grabbed a win, 7-5, over the Calgary Hitmen at The Coal Mine. Antioch left fielder Junior Leeney went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Jarrod Banta picked up the win, improving his season record to 3-5. He struck out 6 in 6 innings. Ethan Howell got credit for the save for Antioch. It was his 6th of the year.
Joey McCarthy had a big 2-run double for the Coal Miners in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Antioch leading 3-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Dave Rivera, who is tied for 8th in the RAAA in wins with 6, and swatted a double to right. It was his 14th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Coal Miners ahead, 5-0.
"Been a rough stretch for us," said Calgary manager Brandon Ashley.
With the win, Antioch raised its record to 36-23.
