Candiac got a terrific game from catcher Rob Muniz. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Detroit, 9-7. Muniz was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 1 for 2 with a home run and 3 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. The winning streak has now reached 7 games for the Death Stars.
The Redbirds had been locked in a 6-6 tie with the Death Stars going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old center fielder Howard Milward came to the plate. Milward hit a 2-run double on a full count fastball from Candiac hurler José Chávez. It was Milward's 11th double of the year.
"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Detroit manager Pedro Gonzáles.
