Coal Miners Handle Cacti, 2-1
|
Fans witnessed a whale of a game between the Antioch Coal Miners and Albuquerque Cacti.
Antioch turned a good effort from starter Omar Hernandez into a win over the Albuquerque Cacti at Albuquerque Sports Stadium. The Coal Miners won the game, 2-1. Hernandez, now 4-1, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run.
Antioch used the hitting of George Blackburn to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Coal Miners on top, 2-1. For the game, Blackburn had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"That's us at our best," Hernandez told the Antioch Daily News. "Pitching and trying to prevent runs."
The third-place Coal Miners improved to 23-21.
