Dimond, Freeze Beat Canadians, 8-5
|
Fans at Stanley Park were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Vancouver Canadians take on the Minneapolis Freeze.
The Minneapolis Freeze beat the Vancouver Canadians, 8-5, at Stanley Park. Minneapolis second baseman Dave Dimond earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The winner was Dan Ayers, who threw 112 pitches over 7 innings. The right-hander was charged with 1 run on 2 hits. Earning his 8th save for Minneapolis was Pete DeCaprio.
Jamie Drum dealt the Canadians a blow in the top of the second. Batting with the bases loaded and Minneapolis leading 1-0, Drum, who is tied for 8th in the TAAA in bases on balls with 32, hit a 2-0 sinker for a run-scoring single.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Dimond.
Their 26-23 record puts the Freeze third in the TMLAAA Joe Torre Division.
