Ascione Steals Spotlight, But Last Laugh Belongs to Pasadena
The Pasadena Bumblebees overcame a pretty good performance by Joplin third baseman Chris Ascione, beating the Fireballs, 7-5, at The Hole. Ascione went 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Pasadena reliever Joel Holt picked up the win to move to 1-0. Ramon Franco suffered the loss. Picking up his 13th save was 27-year old right-handed pitcher Dustin Phillips.

Had Marvin Diaz not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Diaz hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Bumblebees.

"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Diaz told the Pasadena Daily News.

The Bumblebees, at 31-17, sit in first place in the TML AAA Joe Torre Division.
