Fireballs Get Plucky, 8-7 Win Over Freeze
The Joplin Fireballs defeated the Minneapolis Freeze, 8-7, in 12 innings. Much of the credit belonged to left fielder Bret Hoekstra, who went 5-6 with 5 singles for the Fireballs. With the win, Joplin has a record of 18-27. Minneapolis falls to 23-21.

Joplin used a timely hit from Frank Wagner to get the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 12th inning to put the Fireballs ahead, 7-6. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Daniel Petro.
