Indianapolis beat Joplin at Ken Griffey Jr. Plaza, escaping with a 7-6 win. The win in large part was due to shortstop Jimmy Cox. He was 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The 5th-place Fireballs dropped to 15-20.

Had Greg Eckelberry not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Eckelberry hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Ambition.

"I just try to bring what I bring to this team," said Cox.
