Messenger Blanks Joplin, 3-0
|
The Joplin Fireballs were almost helpless in their 3-0 loss to the Hendersonville Hens and hurler Josh Messenger. Messenger kept the Fireballs confused all game, spinning a 2-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Messenger," Joplin manager Daniel Petro said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 22-year-old right-hander had 2 walks and 5 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Messenger said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
This season, Messenger has crafted a 3-1 mark with a 3.50 ERA in 43.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .244 against him and he has 42 strikeouts.
