Fireballs Clipped, 4-2
|
Antioch got a strong outing from Omar Hernandez as the Coal Miners defeated the Joplin Fireballs, 4-2, at The Coal Mine. Antioch pitcher Nate D'Ambrosio earned the win, hiking his record to 1-2. Birru Bagatui suffered the loss. With the win, Antioch goes to 14-13.
The decisive blow was delivered by George Blackburn in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run home run off 25-year old left-handed pitcher Ross Ferry to win the game for Antioch. The home crowd went nuts.
"Omar did a good job keeping the game under control," said Antioch manager Jordan Hay.
