Fans who congregated at The Coal Mine were treated to extra-inning drama.

The Peoria Caterpillars got a hard-earned win over the Antioch Coal Miners, 9-7, in 16 innings. Mark Coppage provided some offensive muscle for Peoria. He was 5 for 8 with 2 home runs and 2 doubles. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice. Early on, the Caterpillars, at 20-8, have excelled.

Peoria needed the clutch hitting of Luis Santizo to seal the deal. The first baseman swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the 16th inning to put the Caterpillars on top, 9-7. For the game, Santizo had 1 home run and 2 singles in 6 at-bats.

"This team has the heart of a lion," said Caterpillars manager Leonard Lee.
