Fireballs Defeat Argonauts, 2-0
|
Joplin took on Astoria in a contest which featured a pitchers' duel. Nate Cory, in particular, was fantastic. The Joplin left-hander helped his team snag the win, 2-0. The winning pitcher was Cory, now 1-0. He tossed 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. Bill LaForge, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2061 draft, earned the save for Joplin.
The Fireballs got a big at-bat from designated hitter Frank Wagner. For the game, Wagner was 1-4 with a home run. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Joplin a 1-0 lead.
"Nate -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Fireballs manager Daniel Petro. "He was the key to us winning."
Joplin goes to 7-15.
