Sphinx Raise Rally Flag, Beat Waimea, 7-6
|
Waimea got a terrific game from right fielder Tomas Nieves. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Cairo, 7-6. Nieves was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Cairo reliever Martin Blank picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Justin Keling took the loss. Picking up the save was George Fortin, his 7th.
In the top of the eighth, left fielder Travis Duchesneau hit a 2-run double to left-center. The double, which was hit off of Justin Keling, gave Cairo a 7-6 lead.
"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Germán Tovar.
The Sphinx, now 11-4, have been red hot.
