Calgary and Joplin got after it at Foothills Stadium.

The Calgary Kodiaks got a marvelous performance from pitcher Bill Purcell. The left-hander kept the Joplin offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 6-2 Calgary victory at Foothills Stadium. Joplin, at 3-10, is off to a poor start in 2064.

The Fireballs had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Kodiaks going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old right fielder Ramon Villanueva came to the plate. Villanueva hit a grand slam home run on a full count sinker from Joplin hurler Matt O'Connor. It was Villanueva's 1st home run of the year.

"Bill made some big pitches when he needed to," said Kodiaks manager Stanley Harvey.
