Jazz Sunk by Armada
|
The Quebec Armada downed the Montreal Jazz, 7-1, at Stade Claude Raymond. Stellar pitching by Bruce Gaulton had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who finished 2nd in the TML in wins with 20 in 2053, handcuffed his opponent all game. The winning pitcher was Gaulton, now 1-1. He tossed 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 5. Early on, the Armada, at 10-4, have excelled.
Quebec won the game in part because of Omar Diaz. The second baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Armada ahead, 2-0. For the game, Diaz had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"It's a mindset," said Gaulton. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
