Simmons Drills 2 Homers in 3-1 Memphis Win
|
The Memphis Privateers and Fairfield Flash played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
Both offenses were relatively subdued at Privateers Grounds. Fortunately for the Memphis Privateers, though, Nick Simmons was able to deliver in the clutch. He went 2 for 2 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2, to lead his team past the Fairfield Flash, 3-1. Steve Hoefling closed the game out for Memphis, earning his 2nd save.
Memphis first baseman Bill Bollard helped the Privateers go up, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Bollard hit a run-scoring single off Fairfield pitcher Angelo Perez.
"If you chase it, you need to get it," said Memphis skipper Bryant Thomas.
With the win, Memphis goes to 2-3.
