Mustangs Get Win, Hope to Turn Around Slow Start
|
The Antioch Coal Miners got a superb performance from pitcher Terry Bishop. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Billings. The Mustangs won the game, 4-1. In spite of the loss, Bishop was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Clement Bowden earned the win for Billings. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 6 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 1-0. Getting the save was Roger Montgomery, his 1st.
The Mustangs got an important contribution from shortstop Ricardo Reyna, who in the top of the seventh punched a first pitch fastball into center for a run-scoring single. It was his 7th hit of the season and put the Mustangs ahead, 2-1.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Reyna.
The Mustangs, with only their 1st win in 4 games, have not had much to write home about in 2044.
