Wind Walk Off with Win
|
Crowds lined up early in front of The Wind Tunnel, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2044 TRIPLE A season. On the mound was Rafael Padilla for the visiting Thunder Bay Black Bears and Joey Cabler for the hometown Waimea Wind. In a spirited contest, the Wind pulled out the win, defeating the Black Bears by the score of 1-0. Earning player of the game honors was Rafael Padilla.
Waimea left fielder Alex Guevara had a key at-bat for the Wind in the bottom of the 11th inning. Facing left-hander Werner Jackman, Guevara hit a walk-off solo home run. It put Waimea in front, 1-0. For the day, Guevara went 2-5 with a home run.
"We did just enough to win," Guevara said.
