Hitmen Score Late, Clip Cacti, 4-3
|
Fans of the Calgary Hitmen who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Calgary win over the visiting Albuquerque Cacti, 4-3. Alex Duran started for the home team against Jack Anthony. Alex Duran earned accolades for his performance. Javier Rios picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Rick Clark suffered the loss.
Tony Vallejo drove in one run for Calgary. The 26-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Rick Clark. It was his 1st RBI of the season.
"Ah," said Vallejo in a jubilant clubhouse, "the sweet smell of victory!."
