Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Cozumel Beaches were eager to watch Tony Leija square off against Jay Bowman of the visiting Thunder Bay Black Bears. In the end, the Black Bears won the game, 9-4, with Tomas Cruz leading the way. Jay Bowman, the winner, goes to 1-0. He allowed 4 runs on 4 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts over 9 innings.

Thunder Bay used a well-timed hit by Jong-Min Kim Jr. to capture the win. The second baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the third inning to put the Black Bears ahead, 3-2. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
