Hornets Tack 8-4 Loss on Pilots
|
The Eureka Hornets beat the Jacksonville Pilots, 8-4, at Arnold Field. Eureka left fielder Ed Cormack had an outstanding performance. He went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Jonathan Ortiz got the win, improving to 11-7. He worked 7 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Jacksonville now owns a losing streak of 5 games.
Wanjala Bagatui came through with a big-time hit for Eureka. The shortstop smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Bagatui. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
