Hornets Get Gritty, 2-1 Win
|
The Eureka Hornets, despite a fine performance by Buffalo pitcher Jonathan Solano, grabbed a 2-1 win at The Nest. Solano allowed no runs over 6.2 innings. Justin Soule picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-7. Brendon Wager suffered the loss. Dave Murphy earned the save for Eureka, his 5th of the year.
Brian Carr found himself in a pressure situation in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Buffalo hurler Brendon Wager, the 18-year-old second baseman hit a sacrifice fly. His 61st RBI of the season put the Hornets on top, 2-1.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Buffalo skipper Jon Green, "and it cost us."
After today's action, Eureka sits at 77-57, while Buffalo falls to 71-63.
