Toreros Win, 2-1, in 10
|
The Cabo San Lucas Toreros did just enough to nip the Asheville Moonshiners, 2-1, in 10 innings. Cabo San Lucas pitcher Oliver de Leeuw, in particular, had a standout performance. Cabo San Lucas reliever Terry Dunne picked up the win, while Steven Shiplack took the loss for Asheville. The 5th-place Toreros now have a win-loss record of 54-75.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Gene Crowell? The 20-year old second baseman Crowell stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put Cabo San Lucas up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"We just didn't score enough runs to win," said Asheville manager Baldassario Ardinghi.
