The Montreal Jazz earned a close win over the Maple Marauders, thanks in part to Oscar Alfaro. The Montreal left-hander, who is tied for 10th in the TML with a 3.87 ERA, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. The winner was Alfaro. He threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Kyle Thomas. Picking up his 28th save was 29-year old left-handed pitcher Ernesto Herrera.
Had Bill Buntrock not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Buntrock hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Jazz.
"Job one," said Alfaro, "is get the job done."
Montreal is now 57-65, while Maple is 46-76.
