Hornets Beat Beach Bums, 3-1
|
The Eureka Hornets got a magnificent effort from pitcher Bob Vasquez, who kept Traverse City hitters in check en route to a 3-1 Hornets win at The Nest. Vasquez, now 2-0, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing no runs. Eureka occupies 6th place in the Thurman Munson League Tim Ervin Division at 61-59.
Antonio Pena had a big solo home run for the Hornets in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Eureka leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Nick Clark, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2054 draft, and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Hornets on top, 2-0.
Pena told the media after that game that the mood in the clubhouse is "extremely positive" after a win like that.
