Slice Net 5-3 Win Over Moonshiners
|
Manhattan center fielder Dan McCaffery played a vital role in his team's 5-3 conquest of Asheville. He was 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Manhattan. Tom Simmons got the win, improving to 11-9. He worked 7 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. Josh Showalter locked down his 24th save.
Manhattan second baseman Jong-Min Kim Jr. contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 106th hit of the season and put the Slice ahead, 5-3.
Slice manager Giampaolo Marcovicci praised McCaffery after the game. "I keep telling everyone," he said, "'Don't go to sleep on this kid.'"
The defeat makes Asheville 59-60.
