Pharaohs Win, 5-4, Versus Beach Bums
|
Cairo beat Traverse City at The Pyramid, eking out a 5-4 win. The triumph was primarily due to first baseman Seiju Ushijima. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Scott Tiede came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 7-4. The win puts the Pharaohs at 73-43, while the Beach Bums drop to 47-69.
Benito Mendosa helped out the Cairo cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the shortstop went 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
Ushijima said, "Whether you hit the ball hard, you walk, you have a long at-bat, 10 or 12 pitches, or you hit a homer, you're just trying to do anything you can do to help the team win."
