Conditions were not ideal but Cairo and Kansas City were able to put their game in the books.
With Tim Wolk leading the charge, the Cairo Pharaohs defeated the Kansas City Tornadoes, 6-3. Wolk was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Pharaohs. David Rosas snagged the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 3.2 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season. Morgan Henn was called on to finish, recording his 4th save.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Ed Reardon came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Kansas City pitcher Ryan Willis, he hit a 3-1 forkball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cairo on top, 4-3.
"Very pleased with the effort on our side," said Reardon.
With the win, Cairo boosts its record to 5-7.
