Mavericks Best Gremlins in Pitching Duel
|
El Paso starter Edwin Serna put the Houghton offense in a vise grip. The right-hander relied heavily on his knuckleball in leading the Mavericks to a 2-0 win. Serna, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 1 and giving up 3 walks. The Mavericks, now 2-0, have hit the ground running this season.
The Mavericks got a big at-bat from shortstop Jonathan Lagunas. For the game, Lagunas went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave El Paso a 2-0 lead.
"We didn't score," said losing manager Dane Freeman. "That was the problem."
