Edwin Serna, who finished 3rd in the RCL in wins with 16 in 2061, had a strong outing for the El Paso Mavericks against the Mexico City Luchadores at The Corral. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 5-2 win. The Mavericks, at 58-67, sit in 4th place in the Roberto Clemente League Central Division.

In the bottom of the fifth, El Paso right fielder Manny Gallegos had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and no one out, Gallegos stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 3-2, El Paso. For the game, he went 2 for 4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI.

"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said El Paso skipper Lorenzo Castillo.
