Pioneers Come Back Late to Clip Slice
The Vancouver Pioneers powered past the Manhattan Slice, 8-7, at "The Fort" at B.C. Place. Bobby Banuelos provided some of the pop. He went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Victor Ortega, credited with the win in relief, is now 3-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.2 innings. Getting the save was Willie Arredondo, his 29th.

The Slice had been locked in a 7-7 tie with the Pioneers going into the bottom of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old catcher Tomas Lazo came to the plate. Lazo hit a run-scoring double on a full count fastball from Manhattan hurler Gebre-Selassie Afiba. It was Lazo's 6th double of the year.

"We ground out the win," said Lazo. "That's all that matters."

With the win, Vancouver goes to 52-56, while the Slice fall to 55-53.
