Maple Rallies to 6-4 Win
|
Behind a solid performance from designated hitter Earl Bitner, the Maple Marauders defeated the Walnut Creek Warriors, 6-4. Bitner went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Marauders. Getting the save was Paul Blevins, his 19th. Maple, now 50-70, holds down last place in the Thurman Munson League East Division.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Mike Flemming came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Walnut Creek pitcher Ray Clemens, he hit a 0-1 cutter for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Maple on top, 6-4.
Maple manager Yen-nien Zhou was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
