Slice Clip Stogies, 3-2, in R1 Contest
|
The Manhattan Slice have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Havana Stogies, winning, 3-2, at Copps Park. Slice left-hander Tom Simmons threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Slice to 3-2 in the best-of-7 Wild Card Round.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Jong-Min Kim Jr. came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Havana pitcher Brandon Hubacek, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Manhattan on top, 3-2.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Ramón Torrez.
The next game is set to be played for Thursday, October 14th , 2060 at The Humidor in Havana.
