Behind a fine performance from Carlos Ayala, the El Paso Mavericks knocked off the Cabo San Lucas Toreros, 13-7. Ayala went 2-5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 7 runs and scored twice for the Mavericks. The winner was Ryan Burnett in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Alex Mata took the loss. Cabo San Lucas now is 7-6.

Had Nate Parish not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Parish hit a 2-run single. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Mavericks.

"Just trying to keep things simple and helping the team win any way I can," Ayala told a local reporter after the game.
