3-1 Win Gets West Island to 66-53
|
The West Island Jazz got a stellar effort from pitcher Jordan Phelps, helping West Island score a win over the visiting Eagle Rock Ridge Runners, 3-1. Phelps picked up the win for West Island, going 6 innings. He gave up 1 run on 8 hits. He now sports a record of 11-5. West Island, at 66-53, holds down third place in the Roberto Clemente League International Division.
The Ridge Runners had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Jazz going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the three-time All-Star Juan Cevallos came to the plate. Cevallos hit a 2-run double on a 0-1 slider from Eagle Rock hurler Terry Hearn. It was Cevallos's 11th double of the year.
Cevallos said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
