Astoria Hangs 3-0 Loss on Peoria
|
Astoria Argonauts starter Mike Gibson hurled his team past the Peoria Caterpillars, 3-0. The winning pitcher was Gibson, now 6-4. He tossed 6.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 2. Allen Justice picked up his 18th save of the season.
Alex Rocha had a big 2-run home run for the Argonauts in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Astoria leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a sinker from Dave Kavanagh, who leads the TAAA with a 3.58 ERA, and swatted a home run to center. It was his 24th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Argonauts ahead, 3-0.
"Main thing is I want the team to win," Gibson told a reporter after the game. "Just have to go out there, take care of my job, and give my team a chance to win."
The winning streak has now reached 5 games for Astoria.
