Bob French was instrumental in his team's 10-2 triumph over the Joplin Fireballs. The designated hitter went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Calgary Kodiaks. The 5th-place Kodiaks hiked their record to 76-73.

Calgary used a clutch at-bat from Ron Gerlt to capture the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Kodiaks ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"Give them credit," said Joplin manager Daniel Petro. "They wrecked us."
