Cacti Beat Kodiaks in 11
|
The Albuquerque Cacti needed 11 innings to defeat the Calgary Kodiaks, 5-4, at Foothills Stadium. Albuquerque shortstop Brian Carl had a superb performance. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Albuquerque reliever Dave Recer, who is tied for 2nd in the RAAA in holds with 9, was credited with the win. His record goes to 6-5. Donovan Zuidema took the loss for Calgary. Earning his 6th save of the year was Danny Chase.
Albuquerque used the timely hitting of Perry Frazer to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Cacti on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Carl told the Albuquerque Herald.
With the win, the Cacti have a record of 89-54.
