River Chiefs Silva Smacks 5 Hits
Luis Silva exploded for a barrage of base hits at Franklin Mountains Field.

The Chippewa center fielder had a field day in his team's 19-4 triumph over the Charleston Panthers, finishing 5-for-7.

"My hitting philosophy is simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."

Silva must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too, leading to one of his best days ever with the bat. Luis Silva grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th, singled in the 8th and grounded out in the 8th.

For the season, Silva is currently batting .202 with 8 home runs and 50 RBIs. In 139 games he has reached base at a .314 rate and scored 55 runs to date.
