In a low-scoring game between St. Petersburg and Brownsville, pitcher Ivan Guido was excellent. The St. Petersburg left-hander helped his team knock off the Bandits, 3-1. Guido, the winner, moves to 3-16. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 3 walks. The win gives the Pelicans a record of 44-106.
The Pelicans got a big at-bat from catcher Ivan Ortiz. For the game, Ortiz hit 2 home runs. In the bottom of the third, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 9th home run of the season gave St. Petersburg a 1-0 lead.
"Bottom line," said Brownsville skipper Izumo Ikarashi, "we didn't play well enough to win."
